Kirby Hall was begun by Sir Humphrey Stafford in 1570 and completed by Sir Christopher Hatton, who was Lord Chancellor for Queen Elizabeth I. The formal gardens were first created in the 17th century and have been recreated by English Heritage. The building fell into disrepair in the 19th century
